RN, BSN, M. Ed, NCSN. Master OF science IN nursinG, NURSE practitioner

I have known I wanted to go into nursing since I was in High School. And I to love to learn and study almost as much as I love to cook. Over my career, I have practiced Nursing in many areas of life – hospitals, school, MD office, and our VNA. And, I’ve been with the Edgartown School as their school nurse for several years. Our family has enjoyed the beauty and community of Martha’s Vineyard as we’ve grown and raised our children. I believe in a holistic approach to wellness; and, using a multidisciplinary team approach to assist in helping a person achieve wellness. There is a huge continuum. It is not merely the absence of sickness, it is also creating a balance between mind, body and spiritual health.

With steady practice comes focus and a desire to help others experience what I believe to be minfulness’ greatest benefits: Increased self- confidence, heightened self-esteem, and the courage to face one’s fears. As a teacher’s aide in the fourth grade – we have the opportunity to practice in an inclusive, kind, and compassionate manner, aiming to help others realize that with dedication and practice that we can find inner strength, peace, and wholeness. In my spare time, you can find me near, on top of, or under the ocean.

I have a lot of experience with noticing my feelings and using breath work and movement to help me get settled and focused. I enjoy helping others find their peace inside too. I know it can be hard to do, that’s why we practice together.

Leader iN training, class of 2022

What inspires me is how much you can learn about children, everyone is different. And, how you can help yourself when you understand a child’s feelings. The experience itself can teach you things. I gain intelligence from helping kids and the experience can teach me about leading, by helping.

LEADER IN TRAINING, CLASS OF 2024

I am told I am responsible and mindful enough to be a camp leader in training over the summer, when school is out. I do believe this experience and learning to work with kids will help me get into college and improve my social skills. And if it helps me with my future, then perhaps also many others.

Advisory COUNsel,Chief of Compassion

Self-awareness is the key to empowerment. Through personal insight gained from their experience ‘on the mat’ in their yoga classes, students can make informed choices about how to take that insight into their daily lives. Practicing yoga offers so many tools for navigating our complex world, some of which are learning how to focus one’s attention, managing personal energy through breath awareness and breathing techniques, and learning how to pause and be present for whatever is happening before responding consciously.

I am a Professional Level Kripalu Yoga Teacher, ERYT, and taught the 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training at Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health from 1998 to 2007. I also am a Movement Therapist, Energy Medicine Practitioner and lead trainings, retreats, workshops and teach yoga on Martha’s Vineyard Island and in many locations throughout the U.S. and abroad.

Advisory Councel, Mind Body Integrative Practices for Living

During my education, I studied and practiced how to integrate mindbody methodologies, and it brings me great joy to serve our island community.  I began as an intern at MVCS working with high risk youth and families, as well as elders; and, continued to build a counseling practice for elders and their families to help navigate the process of physical and emotional changes as we age, evolve, and grow over our lifetime.  I also served as a bereavement counselor for Hospice of MV, and assisted in the foundation the MV Birth Collective.  In my semi-retirement this endeavor is an expression of my joy, cultivated by decades of assisting children, family and elders through every stage of life.  And by far, transforming conflict reduction into resolution is the heart of my practice.  I have observed the reduction of incidence and intensity of conflicts using these ancient tools, so relevant today.
